The process model

Shannon and Weaver:the process model of communication system

To start, I personally do not anymore believe that war had only bring down destruction upon us.With the fast start we achieve many great technologies with the dawn upon war.yesss,it is bad..but without it the possible introduction to the internet wouldn't be discovered.so sorry to you hippies out there(bang bang shoot shoot) let me show a lazy example:

Shannon and weaver were to mathematicians(of course) that worked on a theory of communication.Their aim had been to maximize the efficiency of communication using different media channels (e.g. telephone cables, radio waves) and they produced a model of communication that is still used today – the process (or transmission) model of communication.

and following are a the diagrams showing what these two mathematicians we on about:

basically for me it brings the same meaning, information is gathered from the information source and then transmitted by the transmitter to the channel and then received.just have a look at the two diagrams.many Hipsters out there wouldnt understand much so lets just put this in everyday content.

examples such as messenger where transmission is received from us or you or me using a transmitter which is the messenger or the computer and received by your girlfriend or whoever it is.

between the whole process, there is something could noise which could be anything added to a signal between transmission and reception or you could say something like a disruption or distortion of the signal.like your parents yelling or making noise when you're trying to watch a movie or talking on the phone with the girl you liked for a year now,or rain sound whatever noise that is disrupting the signal.a very good example such as writing this blog now which many other things appears as noise to me such as facebook, movie, cool shows on TV ANDDD MOREEEEEE!.

like the video above!now that parents are noise!

REDUNDANCY:

predictable/ conventional information - not (in the usual sense of the word) ‘useless’ – very useful, in fact, because it establishes common ground and facilitates communication, e.g. a greeting such as a wave, a handshake or the word ‘Hello’ communicate nothing new, they are entirely predictable, but they open the way to further communication

But what questions me is that an example of redundancy is on the example saying a baby is cute by everyone and also saying he's cute when he's growing, that is like saying the same thing on something changing, not to sure about that.but what im sure about is redundancy in the rebecca black friday lyrics, telling us what is after friday what is after saturday and all

have a look at the video and images below

reason why i posted the videos and pictures before writing about what entropy is so just not to buzz kill the meaning :)

entropy (entropic information) – unpredictable/ unconventional information - also useful because this is where the new information is conveyed, e.g. ‘I’ve just run over your dog.’ This information is unexpected and therefore entropic.

but like the GIF file above its entropy in the beginning or the first time viewing it,but sooner as u watch it over and over again it becomes redundant.

looking at art and media also could connect to  redundancy and entropy as mainstream or popular carries high redundant information where else  avant garde or experimental or psychedelic tends to be more entropic.very basic example can be related to my favorite band the beatles. as the early beatles all performing in suits and well cut haired singing all love songs and everyday life songs such as

"Help!"  Lennon2:18
2."The Night Before"  McCartney2:33
3."You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"  Lennon2:08
4."I Need You(George Harrison)Harrison2:28
5."Another Girl"  McCartney2:05
6."You're Going to Lose That Girl"  Lennon2:17
7."Ticket to Ride

but after more experimenting on drugs(LOL) and stuff they became more surreal and lyrics were ever changing which is a total different convey of the early Beatles.

Introduction to media,history and culture

The first topic that was discussed in Media culture& History class was  the introduction to media, history and culture.

MEDIA
What is media? e.g of media-
  • Advertising media, various media, content, buying and placement for advertising
  • Broadcast media, communications delivered over mass electronic communication networks
  • Digital media, electronic media used to store, transmit, and receive digitized information
  • Electronic media, communications delivered via electronic or electromechanical energy
  • Hypermedia, media with hyperlinks
  • Mass media, all means of mass communications
  • Multimedia, communications that incorporate multiple forms of information content and processing
  • New media, a broad term encompassing the amalgamation of traditional media with the interactive power of computer and communications technology
  • News media, mass media focused on communicating news
  • News media (United States), the news media of the United States of America
  • Print media, communications delivered via paper or canvas
  • Published media, any media made available to the public
  • Recording media, devices used to store information
  • Social media, media disseminated through social interaction

BUT what does media really means?
Media are generally understood as technical processes and/or devices involved in acts of communication. The origin of the word 'medium is in the Latin medius, meaning 'middle'. It brings different meaning as how it is seen or understood as.

Media as it entered the English language in the 16th century, and it sense  of referring to something in-between.is useful in any attempt to provide definition.

But since it came from the word 'medium'.what does medium mean?

medium- something which forms a link between one place/person and another(think of the spritiul medium in a séance, supposedly connecting the worlds of the living and the dead.)
